You should have several pads with it, and some polishing compound, if you didn't get the stuff with it, go to your car parts store, and they can take care of you...anyway, common practice is to get some water on the car, get it CLEAN so you're not scouring dirt into the paint, then put the right pad on there, and the buffing stuff, and commence polishing. Then, there's like a rinse stage, then you put wax on it, and put the other pad on the buffer and go to town 'til it shines. Be sure to read the manufacturer's instructions, if you didn't get those, find out who made the thing, and look em up online. Read twice, polish once...
