Well, first off I would relax either way. Last I heard the laptop was recovered and by all accounts the information was not copied off. Lets face it, this was a petty crook stealing a laptop and probably some other small things. Turned into a Federal case with huge nationwide attention, he was probably shitting his pants. Identity theft is a major problem, but in this case you really don't need to worry more then the rest of us.

Thanks for your service.

The VA will contact by letter all the people who's names were stolen. The list that was stolen were mostly retired people who did 20 years in the service. They were getting a COLA (cost of Living Adjustment)

Don't know you name, SSN, address, etc. so I can't check for you. :-)

But, honestly.....

Have you received a letter from the VA letting you know? They sent a letter to every Vet that was affected. Also was your service within the timeframe of the information stolen?

Here the VA website that answers this question.

you should of or would of been contacted, and if you are still concerned you can get "blocks" but on your credit record...if someone applies for credit in your name, using your information..you will be called...this is only useful if it's not you applying though.

If you got a letter from the VA it was, if you didn't get a letter it wasn't.
