Well, first of all the weather was hot 82 degrees and probably rising......plus with the Ecuadorians tossing the ball back and forth and England trying to steal the ball it was more running for both the captian and the players.....plus Beckham was getting dehydrated....he started throwing up and not getting any fluids plus he was sweating and in the last few minutes before he changed he was way toooooo tired to do anything.....If you really look at the game England was in trouble....Ecuador was hot in the beginning almost making the first GOAL...yup not a FREE KICK but an actual GOAL....honestly i do agree there is nothing special bout beckham or as i prefer MR. SPICE cause he is only known for his FREE KICKS, but either way it was an excellent game ECUADOR did fabulous even though they lost.......but for their second time in the World Cup Games they did great.....

Apparently according to the tv, Beckham was physically sick after scoring(much like Zidane in Euro 2004). That will take everything out of him. Get fit for Saturday. His leadership is strange has he seems to have the respect of the players but has not the power to motivate players on the pitch, like a good captain(mirror the manager views on the pitch.
His goal was very good, I feel the goalie should have saved it. But so what!

Becks on his day is the best set piece taker in the world and one of englands most talented ever indiviaduals but the last two games he has played below par...not badly ..he was just quieter than we expect the man to be...his free kicks have been under hit and im glad to see he successfully put one away 2day maybe that will spur him on....he was taken off today because he was ill not cos he played badly...on his day beckham is the best winger there is ..and an inspirational captian for our country ..but i agree he needs to improve this tournament...but hey so do alot of our squads players!!!

I'm getting really pissed off with people putting beckham down hes improved since being at man u which i didn't think was possible! he has been slated by the media scores the winning goal and still not good enough for some people! something is wrong with him he wouldn't have come off other wise just hope it ain't serious!
just readin other answers and hes used to playing in the heat! not an excuse! or reason in my books

He seemed very much tired after he had done his job, that is score a goal in such a crucial moment when England needed it desperately. Moreover, youngsters should also get opportunities and it was a great moment for Lennon to come on for Beckham even it was just for few minutes.

He was sick and dehydrated, he was literally dry-heaving at almost every whistle. It's a wonder he was able to score that goal. It's also a wonder why they waited so long to take him out. If he's not 100% for the enxt game the coach is going to have some explaining to do.

England will win the World Cup, if english people get positive and send power over to our players, they are all good players,
do we want them to lose? are we all negative just because beckham is human and was ill? shall we all send good thoughts to our players. let them know we are thinking of them, without judging them....be proud that we got to quarter finals be brave and think of them, not ourselves !!! WATCH EM COME BACK WITH THE CUP,

Your assessment is correct. he sat on the right wing and watched much of the game. His crosses, free kicks and corners are not questioned (but his PKs are!). He's no leader, but to answer the question, I would guess he was taken off for being UGLY! Because he is!
