I prefer anime because there is a big difference between the looks of the character and the story of the two. Anime are more emotional and colorful. They include variety in the story like love, action, and drama all in one show. They are more mature in themes. American cartoon are straight forward and more for kids. They show simple story to understand and more comic. I am a big fan of the chronicle of wings or the org title tsubasa chronicles and I watch also hentai animes. cartoon for teen boys. hehehe.

Cartoons if I feel goofy and not wanting to think. Anime if I want to focus and think about stuff...I LOVE Anime art though. Ok, I guess I am more of an anime junky than anything else. I am a big Akira fan, Ghost in the Shell, I also loved Hellsing, Evangelion, Habanei Renmei, Boogie Pop, Cowboy Bebop, Saiyuki, Last Exile, and Gilgamesh...oh man I could just keep going.

Neither.

When I watch a series or a catch a movie... I want to be told a story and I'd very much like for that to be a good story. Tom & Jerry cartoons don't do that. They're senseless and pointless to me. Avatar: the Last Airbender? That pulls me in. All the same, there are some anime which come up short in the story department. Dragonball, Dragonball Z, and Dragonball GT stand as kings of the mountain of pure crap- with Neo Genesis Evangelion struggling to stay afloat in the ocean of pure poop popping out of the Dragonball continuity (aka, Axis of Crap). It doesn't mean that American animation wins over Japanese as a result though- there are still hordes of great anime titles out there... Rurouni Kenshin, Fullmetal Alchemist, Bleach, almost anything by CLAMP...

At the end of the day, it comes down to individuals being measured out? Do I consider Magic Knight Rayearth to be a better example of animation than I do the Flintstones? I most certainly do. Do I think the Venture Brothers beats the snot out of Zenki? Duh.

Well a lot of cartoons here are edited from Japan so they r technically anime! I like anime more cuz it's more mature! It's a lot more interesting cuz of all the genres! i especially like Fruits Basket
PS to first answerer if u r old fashioned then u should like anime! Disney isn't older...... Anime is Japanese cartoons so I'm pretty sure they had those for a while too or close enough

Well, they ARE both entirely different, so it would be a personal choice.

I like them both. Just depends on my mood, and expectations.

However, I would probably want (or expect) anime for a movie or TV animation originating from Japan. And the same for a DC Comics animation, NOT drawn in anime.

i don't really like the dubs, but sailor Moon is awesome all the way! anime is way better, but has a smaller fan base it seems.
Cartoons like the crapt on adult swim are just annoying, though they are funny sometimes, they are more often just sadly pathetic. No story, no taste, just garbage and stupidity.
anime wins hands down for me.

Anime would be the only choice, since its so much better than cartoons, they hav more action, more comedy, more romance, more tradegy, more everything, a cartoon can go only so far, while anime can soar. I mean how can bugs bunny match up with Bleach or CCS, its only comdedy, while anime are more than that.

anime is mini movies view on how each person can focus on their outlook of life.
cartoons are not suppose to have to many morals but show a view of how the lil things amuse us.

so animes are my choice because i gain much perception looking at them.
