She is not open with what is going on. She has been slowly withdrawing for a year. In counceling she does not make sense (grasps at straws). She blurted out she wants a divorce but does not want to be alone. Sends mixed messages. I think she is having a midleife crisis. We are still together (TV, dinners, walks).

Be as patient as you can, and tell her you will not make a big deal out of it if she can be honest with you. To most women, the worst would be to tell you she is in love with someone else. So if you suggest that, and say you will try to understand, she may open up. Explain that not knowing is worse than knowing, no matter how bad the secret is.

Be prepared, however, for a shocker even so. You may think you can handle it, but what if it's a close friend of yours? Or what if it's a woman? Or what if she's developed a very bad relationship, such as with a criminal or a much younger man, even a teenage boy?

Tell her that you want to be reasonable, and live up to it. Help her to regain her serenity, and then get on with your own life.

Go to a counselor with or without your wife for some good professional advise. Women rarely leave a good relationship. Something is wrong with yours and if you want to try to save it, you better get going NOW! Maybe she's tired of the same old thing: giving her life over to kids, husband and everyone else with no time of her own. In the case that she just wants out of the marriage, let her go; but don't let her stay with you. If she wants out, she gets her own place. There are boundaries that just can't be crossed. Maybe you guys need some time apart to learn to appreciate each other again. God Bless.

I strongly suggest a total medical check up, including full body MRI....your wife could well be very ill and doesn't know it, or knows it and is trying to cut the cord FOR YOUR SAKE...not a wise move, but stranger ones have been made.
Your wife may be going through her own mid-life crisis, suffer depression of unknown cause, whatever...this does NOT sound normal..usually when one or the other moves away, there are definant reasons, yet your wife is unable to give one...depression! If she is ambivalent towards everything...DEPRESSION! In any event. do not abandon her or listen too closely until she starts coming up with some real answers....she sounds ill to me. Of course, I have very little of the story to work with here, so take my words for what they are worth...but if what you say is true, not pointed or overly one-sided, your wife is in a serious state of depression...and that state can be deadly if left unattended.

It is not a fun time but remember anything worth doing right is hard work.

All you can do is be there and be sure she knows you love here and you are willing to fight for her love.

Patience and love is what will save your relationship and right now you are the only one that may have enough to share of eithor one.

I will tell you what my brother told me after he had been in his second marrage for about 3 years. He said it would have been easire in the long run to work on his first marrage that the effore it has taken to work on the second marrage.

Do not be in a hurry to give up on each other.

you sound like she doesnt know what she wants I think she mite be goin through bidlife, has she seen a doctor for nerves bipolor, or anythin, most women cant make up their minds and does have a problem tellin you how she feels or what she wants ones who do are usually rude or pushy, I have a husband and the poor thing will never figure me out, I have problems with tellin how I feel and get upset esy lately and cant make up my mind, I am goin through midlife and hormones arent easy to live with just me let alone him, have her tell you somethin and see a doctor, maybe she still wants the relationship or maybe just part time as if dating again you mite want to do so, good luck, mostly just have to put excitement back in, we have and doin much better.

Maybe she was looking 4 more than just a mundane relationship. Since it is midlife stage, sex may not be the cause or an answer to the problem. There may be psychological gaps. Sometimes one is looking 4 inspirational relationships. TO INSPIRE ,WE HAVE TO RAISE OUR OWNSELVES. Try silence and prayer method : Just be with her , pray stongly 4 her welfare within your heart',touch her softly and let the vibrations pass... Patience , sincerity , and prayer may work

Grant her the divorce. If she's going to be unhappy it's going to make you unhappy and if you have children you don't want to expose them to the unhappiness either, whether you think so or not they do pick up on it. There have been people who get a divorce and then later on the will remarry each other.

She wants your blessing to end the marriage and possibly your assistance in it, and above all, your friendship. She continues to go along with 'the program' to avoid hurting you.

My advice, do something different with her. Change doesn't happen doing the same things. There is a chance...
