If your mom gets a new job within 63 days of her last one, she should be able to get health insurance through her new job based on her previous coverage. This is under a federal law called the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Here are six quick thoughts. I have links for each item in the “Sources” section.

1.If your mom can work, she should try to get a job with health benefits.
2.Call a lawyer. Try legal aid or the state bar association for a referral.
3.Get free or discounted medical help at a free clinic.
4.Once she’s diagnosed, see if there are any groups that can help people in with her condition/illness. Needy Meds is a good resource for this.
5.Some states have programs for single or pregnant women, if your mom falls into either category.
6.Call local health insurance agents to find out what kind of health plans are available near you and what kind of pre-existing condition policies they have.

Good luck. I hope this helps.

If you go to the ER, they will see her, but the bill will be hundreds of dollars just for the visit; if she can't pay that, then the creditors will be after her. It won't look good to a judge if it looks like she has abused the system (run up a huge bill by going to the ER when she could have gone to a clinic for $50).

You should get a lawyer. In many states, workers compensation is a state-run process. The doctor at the clinic may be obligated to see and treat her for the workers comp claim.

Go to the ER or find a clinic that specializes in workers comp cases. Save the bills and then when her claim comes through that will back bill. This happens all the time and like I said there are places tha specialize in this. She can even call her old insurance company and ask for a list of places that will help her in the meantime.

A doctor at the emergency room cannot refuse treatment to any patient. A hospital cannot either. She can get treatment and later...after her problems are solved...the company she works for will pay for her bill. Or she can come to an understanding with the hospital about installment payment plans.

If she was hurt at work, as a result of work, workman's comp should be paying the medical bills. She needs to go to the doctor, and when asked who is responsible for the bills, she should give them the name, address, and phone number of her employer.

I really feel for you and I don't know what is really the answer. I would look into legal aid to find a free lawyer. There are legal aid offices everywhere, and that's how they should be listed in the phone book. Or go to the bar association of your local town on the web and ask for free (pro bono) legal advice. Search bar+association+legal+"your town".

Most counties have a place where you can go and the cost is based on her income. just call some places and find out if they will charge based on income.

I live in Canada so I don't have this problem. But i would think you could try welfare or apply for disability insurance.
