This will be my first year of college, im going to a community for first 2 years for psychology. I signed up for classes last week and ended up with 18 credit hours. I thought it would be no problem at first, its only 6 classes... and my 2 math classes are slit up by midterm. People keep acting suprised that the college let me sign up for that many classes my first semester. Should I get rid of some of my classes and take some semester 2. (Semester 2 I will only have 13 hours.)

Well, I'm into my third year of college, and my first year I took 15 credits per semester. Now, I'm taking about 21ish.. The only reasons I'm able to do this is the fact that I have nothing else to do (no job) and I'm taking most of the classes with my boyfriend.

My suggestion to you is, don't take more than 15 credits. That's even too much. UNLESS you're taking most if not all of them with a friend. But since it is your first semester, I suggest only 12 or so.

Good luck!

Wow that seems way too much for first time at college. Usually you should have at least 12 credit hours for full time students. I barely managed with 12 hrs. You should definately get rid of something maybe 2 classes. You don't want to stress yourself out.

I would definately only take a max of 15 hours...maybe 16 if you can find a 1 hour course. At my school 12 hours is considered a fulltime student. Dont over work yourself, if you do you wont be able to experience the other fun parts of college.

If you are prepared to work your butt off, I would say go for it. Through my experience with summer classes, you will not have much time to breath, let alone have a social life. It s worth the sacrifice to knock out the hours that quickly. Just relax in the fall though and enjoy your time in college. It will be some of the best times in your life.

Lol! 18 credit hours? I have 30 credit hours every semester. I think you should let it as it is because you will have less to study during the second semester.

wow, you're got a heavy course load...but it's not unusual, I started college with 17 hours my first semester and it was overwhelming at times. It's possible to do it, but I have to warn you, you're going to have to stay motived and focused, especially taking two math classes at once...that's going to be stressful. But yeah, the limit of hours a student can take per semester is 18 unless they have special permission from their dean, so don't worry, and best of luck in your studies...

If you are up to the challenge, and are a hard-working student who always completes your work, then go for it, you could get your degree done quicker. But if you are like me, and struggle with homework & studying, then you should stick to 12-15 credits/semester.

Always sign up for more courses than you plan to take each semester, then drop those course that you do not like or course that has a bad professor.

Try to balance out your credits. 15 is ideal. 18 will be too many (been there, struggled..and it wasn't my freshman year) and will give you too much stress/pressure/aggrevation. Drop one class and start out on the right foot. Good luck.

Six classes is one too many unless you are going over stuff you already know...in that case get the credits out of the way as early as possible........
