Well, a 13 year old should be outside or out interacting with others and should be helping with chores, so I think maybe 2 hours maximum Internet and TV time (total) a day. I see many kids retreat to their rooms and play video games, watch TV and talk on the internet for up to 7 hours a day, that's a lot! Maybe you can reward him on weekends if he's done all his chores and obeyed all the rules with an extra 1 or 2. Of course you are the parent so you know what's best, this is just my opinion.

Good luck!

As a 13 yr old according to the Community Guide lines you are not supposed to be on here at all without your parents consent and guidance.

To answer your question though, 2 or 3 hours seems very fair to me, and maybe longer if you are researching something for school.

You should be directly supervised by your parents however, I am sure you know the reasons why so I don't need to go into them.

Lemme guess you are a parent. I say it depends. If he is into Fantasy sports then like 5-6 hours, so he can spend 3-4 hours on fantasy stuff (that's how long i spend) and then 2-3 hours browsing the internet for cool things.

It depends what they are doing on it and whether you have broadband or not.

My kids have their own computers in their rooms (my ex's request) and they both have access to the internet. My youngest hardly ever uses it but my eldest is always downloading papercraft and he loves to do investigations on it for homework purposes. I would say on average my eldest spends about 2-3 hours per night on a school night, but anything up to 5 hours per day on a weekend (dependant on the weather)
I can see what sites he is going to from my pc downstairs and he has a brilliant firewall so, touch wood, no bad stuff gets through.

I always make a point of chucking him off after a couple of hours just to give his eyes a rest and to get some fresh air.

My ex is a Computer Programmer so unfortunately it has rubbed off on my eldest who, even at the age of 9, knows more about a computer than I do lol.

I would say 2-3 hours is fair, but there are times, especially when they are using it as a reference for homework, when longer is necessary. Use your own judgement but make sure they do have regular breaks.
