Though Lincoln, Jefferson, and Reagan are good choices, I think you'd have to give it to Washington because he lead the country in its infancy and he had nothing to go on. He basically had to make it up as he went along. He had no history to fall back on, and no standards to comfort him.

Many presidents accomplished great things so different people will see greatness from different perspectives.

Ronald Reagan can be credited with ending the cold war and the collapse of Russia. Probably rather hard to cap that.

Look at Clintons record in office. Ignore the sex and look at what he actually managed to accomplish. It was certainly much more than any president in modern times.

Does your question stop with the years they were in office? Both President Clinton and Carter continue to do much good work for the US and world peace.

ROTFLMAO!!! To be honest, I think it was Bill Clinton...The ONLY bad things he did while in office was cheat on his wife (which I bet has been going on for a long time, he just got caught) and he Lied about it (as would any man or woman who cheats on a spouse) but even with those, he also gave us a new definition of Sex...Remember all the really good things he did to bring many in the world closer to peace and keep in mind : Clinton didn't fall for the crap others tried with him to start the war in the middle east...He went for diplomacy & brought together those from other countries...Bush was pushed into going forward & is now taking the heat for being lied to...

How about this: It wasn't Clinton. :)

I don't see how anyone could say that a president who:
-Pulled out of Somalia cauing Bin Laden to realize he could attack America because they do not "have the stomach for war."
-Lied to the entire United States of America during a scandal and only then told the truth once caught.
-Turned down 3 attempts to kill Bin Laden.
-Said "I smoked pot but didn't inhale" as though this makes it okay.
-Gave North Korea nuclear capabilities as though they would then be our friend and NOT find conversions to turn these capabilities into weapons.
-An the list goes on for days.

And no, he doesn't STILL do alot for this country and never did when he was in office for his 8 horrible years. I mean, what does he still do? He believes the United States is responsible for the climate and thinks that taking Soda out of school is going to fix the weight problem.

LIBERALS NEED TO LEARN THAT PEOPLE KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR PEOPLE, NOT GOVERNMENT!!!

I don't know which one was the best, but Clinton did a good job of changing the welfare system while he was president. Instead of people mooching off the gov. for their entire lives, they have to go get a job now! That's a major improvement. (Just talking about recent presidents)

As much as I love Lincoln, I'd have to go with Washington. Think about it. He was the first and if he had screwed it up, that would've been the end of any succeeding Presidents.

That would be Thomas Jefferson, time may prove that Jimmy Carter though not popular while in office has done more to promote good American ethics both at home and world wide.

Richard Nixon. Hands down. He got us out of Vietnam, into China, stopped a crippling recession and helped both business and workers. Tricky? Yeah but he still saved our butts more ways then one. Kind, sweet but incompetent won't help you.
