you can just take the test if you are working, in a pharmacy for example.....that's what I did. I was working at Walgreens..and they paid for the test. I didn't take any classes...but they gave me some information to review...
FYI: it's not a high paying job if you are considering this as a career....retail you'll probably make about $10/hr certified..and in a hospital...maybe 12-14.

If by x-ray tech, you mean radiological tech- by far a rad tech makes more. An x-ray tech certification usually does not qualify you as a rad tech, but just to do x-rays at a dentist or docs office. You need a 2 year degree for a rad tech. If looking at just certifications, a pharmacy tech would probably make more

I took a corespondent course, cheaper then college ($1200) and I could do everything on line. So I continued to work full-time and do my studies, some companies do certify their techs but I don't think it's equivalent to schooling...good luck Oh you could always contact CAPT (Canadian association of pharmacy technician), they might be able to direct you in some of your questions

You do have to go to school. Look into a school in your area if thats what you are interested in.
