For climbing roses, my favorite is the Zepherine Daughin- which is actually shade tolerant as well (although it prefers sun) and is the only "thornless" rose. It has a pale pink, single flower.
You could also consider alternative vines like:
Trumpet Creeper (Campsis radicans), it has a vibrant orange flower, attracts hummingbirds, and grows aggressively- sometimes too agressively.
Clematis is another great flowering vine, and likes full sun. It is a member of the Ranunculus familiy (Ranunculaceae) so it needs a good mulch.
Since you are in northern california, depending on which zone you are in, you may also want to try some other tropical flowering vines such as Bouganvilla, Mandevilla or Passion Flower (Passiflora).

Climbing Don Juan is an excellent re-bloomer! It's a long stem dark red, so it's suitable for cutting as well as leaving on the vine. Blaze is a bright red, and it's a very hardy plant as well. Climbing Joseph's Coat is a color changing flower, yellow, orange and red are visible on the same plant at the same time

OK try Springhill Nurserys on the Web. You get 100% guaranteed plants of all kinds. They have a huge Rose selection, much larger than what you might find in the stores! They are great, also ask them to send you a catalog!

The finest one I've ever seen is called "Blaze". It grows like crazy, and puts out hundreds of deep red blooms. A very showy display of color. If you are trying to cover an extremely large area, perhaps plant two, a few feet apart.

Lady Banks is a wonderful climbing rose for a trellis. I've never seen any hot colors though....mostly a gorgeous creamy yellow.

Climbing roses usually only bloom once a season. They only bloom on last year's growth.
