Similarities: They both move down a concentration gradient & they do not need ATP.

Differences: Osmosis is only for water molecules & it happens through a partially permeable membrane.

Similarities: They do not need an external source of energy.
They move down the concentration gradient. They involve molecules. They both will continue indefinitely if there are no barriers restricting molecular movement.

Differences: Osmosis is water specific. Osmosis must include a semi permeable membrane. If the water is in an enclosed area, it will produce osmotic pressure.

Both are passive forms of transport that do not utilize ATP. They are also similar in that they pass molecules through a semipermeable membrane from a high concentration to a low concentration. Osmosis pertains to H2O while diffusion can relate to any solute.

Sigh.
osmosis shifts back and forth between two compartments (divided by the semipermeable they're talking about) equally until both are blended the same......
diffusion is where you slowly leak a small amount into a secondary chamber until you get the percentage of mixtures you want......
(p.s. in some instances, depending on what you are trying to do, you can substitute a valve opening instead of a semipermeable membrane)

Osmosis involves water.
Osmosis involves a semiimpermeable membrane.
Both are the random scattering of molecules.
Osmosis is a type of diffusion.

both substance passing from a region of high concentration to low concentration, both reguire to pass through partially permeable membrane

differences: osmosis only involves water whereas diffusion not.
