When u are on your period, there is a dramatic change in hormones causing significant changes in your body over the course of that week. It is only logical that this would have an impact on your emotions.

BTW, men have cycles too, that are just about the same time period as women. It is also accompanied with significant hormone changes. The problem with us, men, is that there is physical sign of the cycle so it is easier to be in denial of, or to dismiss.

It is everything to do with hormonal changes. And this mood swing has a name - Premenstrual syndrome (PMS).
During our normal menstrual cycle, our hormone levels change in order to prepare our bodies for possible pregnancy and reset the cycle if pregnancy doesn't occur. For as many as 40 to 70 percent of young women, this means a monthly roller-coaster of emotions during the last half of the menstrual cycle.
PMS is a group of symptoms that occurs during the second half of the menstrual cycle. These symptoms include:
* Anxiety, irritability, fatigue, depression
* Difficulty sleeping, difficulty concentrating
* Weight gain, swelling, bloating
* Craving for sweets, chocolate
PMS seems to be related to changes in brain hormone levels, particularly serotonin. It's also related to changes in female hormone levels.

Because once a month we women have not only a charge in hormones, but also a charge in temperature---it goes up a couple notches. If you eat alot of sugary foods, you are feeding the yeast that will increase even more when your temp goes up for your monthly. Stop eating candy and drinking soda.
