A friendship is only what you put into it. Remember it is a two way street in life, you have to give in order to receive.
Honesty and loyalty is what makes a friendship last forever. Keep in mind all friendships tend to go their separate ways but true friends never let much distance between them. Enjoy each other and take each day at a time :)

Friendships take some work. I do not know how old you are, but I am going to assume that you are young. In Junior High there is a great deal of competition between girls for status. You can be with the "cool" girls one day and have rumors flying about you the next. I'm not really sure why this happens but I remember it well. And it hurts.

It gets a little better in high school. There are usually people that are a little more settled and hormones (and moods) have calmed down a little so there is less fighting going on.

Through all ages though, friendships take alot of attention. You count on your friends to keep your secrets, so you are always taking a chance when you tell them. Some people are trustworthy and will keep them for you, others will blab them all over the place. And if you are not a good secret keeper you aren't going to keep friends very long either.

Also, if you have a friend that is very needy and needs your attention all the time but never has time for you, you are going to get burned out pretty quick. Friendships should be pretty close to 50/50. You both have to be there for each other. If all of those things are not in place, if both people are not willing to work at the friendship then it just won't work. It has to be nurtured and tended to like a garden. It should allow both people to grow and bloom.

funnily enough, it isn't if you work at it. Very often in a relationship people start to neglect or take for granted their friendship- ie. not phoning when they say they will anymore or not being arsed to text back because you eachother so well it's not worth it. That tends to be when the friendship goes wrong and someone steps away or you drift apart. You just assume you know eachother so well you don't need to talk.

Friendship requires hard work, tolerance and being there when you are needed. It also means that your friend is there for you on an equal basis. Pretty tough to find people who stick with you for the long haul. But when they do, they truely are friends. I have several wonderful friendships that have been there for over 25 years!!!!!! Not bad huh?

People change, and as people change, interests change. People lose touch. True friends will always stay together though. But don't worry about it, there are plenty of people out there, you can always make new friends.

People are always changing and sometimes you don't change the same way they do.

Friendships don't last when you have nothing in common.
