Slavery in the US actually ended on June 19, 1862, the date President Lincoln signed a bill abolishing slavery in the federal territories. That is the reason why most African-Americans take off to celebrate. Also, the news did not reach the Southern States until President Lincoln made is mandatory on January 1, 1863. On January 1, 1863 is when Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation to free slaves in all states due to military necessity. The Thirteenth, Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendents of the US Constitution was ratified as follows
Article (13) XIII Ratified in 1865 - neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime and convicted, etc.
Article (14)XIV ratified in 1868 - all persons born or naturalized in the US are citizens of the US in the state where the reside, etc...
Article (15) XV ratified in 1870 - the right of citizens in the US to vote shall not be denied

Due to the ecomonical structure of the US and other countries, slavery still exist today due to the wealthy taking advantage of the less fortunate. As long as there are laws proctecting the wealthy, slavery will never be abolished. No one born is born with hatred. Hatred is a learned trait from our childhood and the rule of parenting still applies "if the parents teach hate a child will go up to hate". In today's society, slavey does not necessarily exist because of hate, it exist because of greed.

Well now, you didn't ask what slavery or where. The real answer is that it has NOT ended yet. There are sex slaves - all women - forced into prostitution all over the world by Slavers who take advantage of poverty in the 3rd world. Go look at www.frontline.org and read the story -
If you mean when did slavery in the US end, you can point to the end of the Civil War in 1865. The Emancipation Proclomation did not free all the slaves, just those in the states that were at the time in Rebellion against the United States. There were "border" states that had slaves but were on the Union side - Kentucky ,etc - that Lincoln could not risk losing by banning slavery there. The 13th Amendment finally made it official.

If you really read a newspaper or look at the label of your favorite Old Navy sweater you will know that it hasn't. If you've ever run up the Credit Card you never asked for you will know that it never will.

I hope this answer just changed a life. Peace.
