If a woman is wearing a plain silver band on her left ring finger, does that mean she is married? I thought wedding rings are supposed to have diamonds on them.

Yes, a plain band on the left finger USUALLY signifies marriage. And, no, wedding bands do not have to have diamonds. In fact, a lot of times the engagement ring has diamonds and then the wedding ring is a plain band worn on the same finger with the engagement ring.
BUT, there have been times I've known people (especially young girls) to wear a band on their left finger who are not married. It's just the finger the band fits.

The engagement ring is usually the one with the diamonds on them. The wedding band can have diamonds or be plain. And some women, because the fancier rings get in the way of their job, chose just to wear a plain wedding band. But if there's ring on her left-hand, it usually means she's taken. Course..best way to find out for sure...ask her!

wedding bands, modern or traditional, don't need diamonds. This silver-colored ring you're referring to could be white gold or platinum, in which case it may be a wedding band. It could be just a silver ring that happens to fit this woman's ring finger. Ask and find out. If you're not comfortable being direct, make reference to her husband and she will correct you if she doesn't have one. She will very quickly and happily correct you if she is interested.
So glad to hear from someone who cares about the significance of a wedding band, so many people consider married people fair game. My wish for them, when they are married, is that their spouses have this same disregard for marriage. If they are currently married.

I am a woman with a plain silver band on my left hand. It is my wedding band. I don't like to wear rings so this is what I opted for. I am perfectly happy with it.

it could be platinum which is very expensive and very popular. it looks kinda like silver but cost lots more. and it's a wedding band,
it doesn't have diamonds, wedding rings usually come along later in the marriage. lots of couples start off with wedding bands

It's a wedding band. Have you ever heard of Platnim Gold? It's white gold. It looks silver. She probably has her diamond engagement ring elsewhere or lost it.

Every wedding band is different and it all depends on what the couple can afford and what the woman prefers. Some women would rather have a simple band and a more expensive, wedding, honeymoon or down payment on a house etc...
