Can Spark Plugs Go Bad

2017-01-12 15:06:50 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

a. In a car with four cylinders,if a spark plug goes dead, then you won't feel the difference but an experience personn will feel that the car is slightly underpower.

b. If two spark plugs go dead, anyone will feel the power loss as the remaining two cylinders will work to move ahead. You will feel that the car is 'jerky' in 3rd / 4th gears.

c. And so on...the car will stop ultimately.

Other Side Effects:

a. The exhaust pipe will show traces of black deposits which means a lots of unburnt fuel is being thrown. (A healthy ignition shows the tail pipe slightly brown color with a 'dry' feel)

b. Misfiring...like somebody firing gun shots. This is because the 'dead' spark plug is sometimes acting 'active' with some little current...though occassionally.

Solution:
Get regular service of your vehicle (say after every 7500-8000 Kms,)

When you're at idle or at a red light your vehicle kind of shake a bit, missfire, just absolutely start running rough. Standard sparkplugs you'll get anywhere from 30 to 40,000 miles out of them. 100,000 mile plugs, Platinum plugs are great. They're also self cleaning. Best plugs I've used so far. I've got a set that I've got 110,000 miles out of so far and no misses. You just have to keep your fuel filter and the air filter changed at 15 to 20,000 miles. The platinum plugs cost a little more, but it's a great savings in the long run.

They get "fouled" by carbon build up that keeps them from producing the correct amount of spark to keep the car running smoothly.

can cause your engine to run rough, maybe turn on a warning light such as "service engine soon", those are a couple of the minor things that can happen. from there it can cause a no start condition, or cause major engine damage if you dont get it corrected.

Well, it depends. If its hit by water, electricty erupts. On the other hand it can shock you, or the things you plug in wil not work
