I'd like to be able to tell him what I want and how to do it without crushing his ego. So far, I've only managed to hurt his feelings, and NO, I'm NOT an order barker. In fact, I'm pretty darn submissive, so how can I get my point across so we're both happy?

Ask HIM what HE likes. As he is explaining...listen. When he is done, ask him if he was saying that because you are BAD at something...or simply because he wants you to know his body better.
Invariably...he will say its cause he wants YOU to know HIS body better...that he thinks you are terrific, sexy, etc...
THEN...tell him its the same for you. You love him, you are just letting him know better how YOUR body works. It isn't a complaint...a problem....anything like that. Its just YOUR body that YOU want him to know better.
Hopefully when it is put that way, he will respond better.

Let him know that you are just trying to make your relationship more fulfilling to you both. Tell him that you would like to know if there is anything certain that he wants. If he sees that you are asking him also he may not be so upset.

Talk to him while your head is on his shoulder or stomach, studies have shown that when you speak to someone, your head should be lower than his, they wont get as mad at what your saying.

just tell him nicely and show him how much you like it that way. If he isnt willing to change or think he knows it all, move on.
