Take the cover off, take the cap off.( Make sure it is cold!) As long as you stick your finder in and get water before your finger gets halfway in the hole, you're OK. And if you can tell that it is not plain water. You should be able to feel the antifreeze in it. If it is a little low, just add water. If you are concerned about the antifreeze mix, you can test it same as a car, but the guys at my shop didn't seem to think it was a big deal. If you don't even know when the last tune up or anything was though, you could have it flushed out and redone.

I just but mine this year too. It had a checkup a couple of years before. My mechanice was like, 'Ah, it'll be fine.' And it has been.

Just keep the overflow reservoir topped off and you will be fine.

Make sure you use a non-silicate coolant. Some coolants are not suitable for a motorcycle because they have tiny grains of sand in them that will damage the water pump. One good coolant is GM DexCool.

IMPORTANT: if the bike is a 1500 Intruder, that one is oil cooled. The 1500s have a small radiator/oil cooler in front that could be mistaken for a coolant radiator.

If I were you, I would go to the dealer and ask them to help you out with getting familiar with the stuff on the bike you have questions about and see if they can get you a manual for it.

Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. There are a lot of different bikes out there and no two are the same (well almost no two). LOL
