I simply do NOT understand this mostly-urban, completely-male, fashion choice! It isn't practical and it doesn't look comfortable. So, what's it all about? I really want to know, so that I can quit being flabbergasted, insulted, annoyed, or puzzled by it. I'm too young to be a fuddy-duddy!

This urban thug life fashion became popular with the rise of rap music. Whenever a person is arrested and sent to jail, they take away their belts and any other item that could be used as a weapon. Consequently, these jailbirds would have droopy pants and their undies would show. Rap stars glamorized this thug life by wearing baggy pants, showing their undies, and even having surgically created gun shot and knife wounds. The fad spread through the urban areas all the way to middle America. It is not uncommon to find a middle class white boy trying to dress like Tupac or 50Cent. I think it will die away just like other crazy fads have. If every middle class white dad would dress for just one week as a rap star, I bet all their sons would realize how stupid it looks and would give up those over sized jeans.

It's not just a urban thing,it happens in rural communities to. I live in western Nebraska(a town of 5000) where even the young girls do it and then wear short shirts so that even more of the boys boxers hang out over the top. I'm totally clueless as to why they think this looks good.

I'm sure not attracted to seeing someone's tighty whities hanging over the top of their pants.
Tighty whities disgust me in the first place. I like boxers, but not hanging out of baggy pants.
Of course it's just about as bad as girls with their low rise jeans with the "thong triangle" exposed over the waistband.

I happen to agree with you, what is up with that? I mean, I was laughing my a** off at a stoplight watching 3 guys trying to cross the street. They had extreme difficulty because they were trying to hold up their pants and hurry. I am young, too and every time I see someone showing off their undies, I just wanna sing, "I see London, I see France........" LOL

that fad came strait out of prison.the male prostitutes in the prisons wear their pants hanging down off their butts so the other prisoners know that they are open for business
