When i've talke d to foreigner beginners of english they are so nice and i can have good conversations especially if it's a language i know. like Japanese beginners seem so interested and nice. Koreans too.. but if they are Advanced, they always do almost perfect American accent and they seem like they try too much to copy American ways and mannerisms. And they seem to hate me, think of me as NOT AMERICAN because i'm not white/black and i have accent even thouogh i wa born here in usa. Why are they so mean and NOT ACCEPting of true americans( we are not all white, we are not all black, and YES we have accents( so what!!) ) when they become advanced in english? basically they think i'm crap.

I am not understanding your question. Are you talking about high school or college English. If you are in America now that would explain why these people would emulate the American culture.

If it is college English, you are probably just being the victim of elitism. Upper classmen are known for that.

I never really pay attention to accents. I have traveled a lot and learned everyone has an accent. Put a person from New York in a room with someone from Alabama, not much communication is going to happen because the regional accents are that different.

I'm sorry that people are unkind and arrogant. You are obviously a nice person. Sometimes when people become "experts" in a given subject or discipline of study, they develop an arrogance either because they are extremely proud of themselves or they are insecure and hope that their arrogance will keep people from asking them questions. They might not respect you because they feel they know more than you do. Or maybe they are jealous that you've always had the opportunities afforded true Americans.

If you were born in America and have lived here all, or most of your life, I don't understand why you would have an accent. That doesn't make sense. Maybe they have a lack of respect for you because of that. I'm just guessing.......

maybe 'advanced' is not advanced at all!

I am from the south and my American accent is Southern-American

I speak with correct English, but i have the accent.....I do not try to change it or 'conform' because I am comfortable with where I am from and and proud of my heritage and do not want to change the way I speak.

I say Y'all and Gonna turn short vowels into long vowels with my speech......

Don't mind them. Be true to yourself and shine in what ever field you are into right now. You are unique and especial.

Becase, they're trying to fit in, sad but true. I wouldn't worry about them to much if I was you, if they honestly feel that they're happy trying to be something/sound like something they're not then let them crack on.

Maybe they don't like you and you are making an assumption as to why they don't like you. You can ask them why they are being rude to you.

"I'm sorry, have I done something to make you angry?"
