After 2 months my lawyer dropped my case because the buisness that hit me and ran didnt have any insurance. Now i live in Arlington it's right between Dallas and Fort Worth. I need a Lawyer that will take my case and treat as if it was their car, their job, their 4 month old baby that got the window mashed in on her in the back seat, Someone that will call me by my name rather than my case number. Since this last lawyer i've lost trust in lawyers (i waited 2 months havent even recieved damages for my totaled car and only to find that they dropped my case)The only way i will hire another one is if i can find a good one. KNnow any good lawyers that all say they are good so how will i know they are good? I dont want to go thru this stuff again!!!!!!!!

Your lawyer may have been looking at everything correctly I'm sad to say. You're obviously suing for money damages. Your attorney was probably working on a contingency basis (taking a percentage of what the final verdict/award is). Then, during the scope of investigations he finds there are no "deep pockets"... no money to gain. Odds are, if the business that hit you has no insurance, then they have no assets of any value to take.

That being said, if all you're looking for is to get a judgment, then you can always find an attorney willing to take the case. However, you will end up paying on an hourly basis... with a HEFTY retainer, and NO guarantee of a favorable outcome.

The potential is always there (as well), that you could get the award you're looking for from a judge or jury, and this "business" could always run and file a chapter 7 bankruptcy, and again... you'd get nothing.

There is no point in suing if the other person has nothing (which I suspect was the point of your attorney dropping your case). Check with your state's bar association though... his actions (dropping the case) may have violated some rule of professional conduct.

If you are unable to find a lawyer who is willing to work on a contingency-fee basis and you are unable to afford to retain an attorney for the case, then I would suggest contacting Legal Aid of Northwest Texas, which helps provides attorneys to those who cannot afford them. Their website is www.lanwt.org

That site contains multiple links about low-cost legal resources you might be able to use to help you with your case. In addition, you can try calling the legal clinic at the SMU or Texas Wesleyan schools of law. I study law at SMU, and I found the number to the clinic. I can't guarantee they can help you with your case, but you can talk to someone. I'd still suggest starting with Legal Aid of Northwest Texas, because they can get you a lawyer with some experience instead of just law students. The number to the clinic is:
Clinic Main Number
(214) 768-2562

I hope that helps.

The best suggestion I can give you is call differant lawyers in your area, before you hire them, as it is your money... Give them the 20 questions.... Make a list of questions you want to know the answers to, from these lawyers, read each one to all the differant lawyers you talk to .. then decide from their answers on who answered to your liking. If this doesn't help or isn't something you want to do then I also suggest going on line and loking up lawyers through ask.com or google search.. as alot of lawyers have websites and they also have valuable info about them and thier company. Maybe even some good referances.....
all in all hon its a sticky sitution... Haggen & Haggen seems to be good but they are in SD. I am not sure if they have a chain.... you can always see I guess.. I wish you the best in any case.
