When it is cold and wet we seem to hybernate. As the sun is covered by clouds we do not get the direct sunlight which stimulates our production of ceretonin - the natural chemical which makes us happy / resilient to depression.

Do you ever notice that if it is raining, but the sun is still shining you aren't sleepy!! You are just wondering what phenomenon has created both sun and rain together, you wait for the rainbows, and go about your day!! I do believe the sleepiness comes from our conditioning to sleep when the sun has set! Kind of like how we go to sleep earlier in the fall and winter seasons and stay up later in the spring and summer!

Because lack of sunshine is depressing, hence making you more sleepy. Also, the sound of the rain has a calming affect.

Just look at it this way.
Sun = Energy.
We know plants need sun to grow. Simply put, we need sun for energy, as do all living things. Without that energy we'll feel tired and sleepy!
When its raining its usually dull and darker.

We are just used to not doing anything when it rains, so we relax and get sleepy...
Somtimes I even get Dopey or sneezy, but never Grumpy because I went to the Doc and he gave me Happy pills which make me a little bashful but that's OK...

Because it gets darker out and He sound of rain is like hypnotic and relaxing.Enjoy if you can because then it's back to the bump and grind.

because the rain makes the sky gray and gray is dark so it makes you tired, when it is sunny, the sun keeps you up, cause it is so bright
