I think the legal age for most states is Twelve. You can find out SC probably by going to a Child Protective Services site (government agency). But more importantly the individual matters, I know some 15 yr olds that are totally without common sense. Then again a 11 yr old that is loaded with it. Common Sense is a big piece of it to me. Safety and Concern of doing the right thing. And trying it for very small incriments of time at first. Not all day, Especially with the internet available, Who's watching ....

Personal choice. Not all 13 year olds are mature enough, responsible enough to be home alone. The law will provide you with guidelines but it's up to the parents to make the actual decision.

There is no certain age really. You have to trust that child- see if he/she is mature and responsible enough. I'm 11 and my parents let me stay home alone all summer because I'm not going to camp/vacation and they have to work!
