My pet guinea pig just ate one of my mum's tablets that she dropped on the floor and her legs have all gone like jelly and she can't walk and her paws have all gone red and swollen up and got really hot and I can't get her to drink anything! I tried dripping water into her mouth but it dribbles out the sides. I don't want her to die because she's my precious pet and I love her so much, and I can't get her to the vets because it's closed on Sunday! What can I do???

It would take about 3 days for the meds to wear off by then it's to late. About 12 hours of not eating or drinking will shut down their system causing anorexia from which they do not recover.

Piggies are very delicate when it comes to medicines..There's nothing really a vet would be able to do but give it intravenous fluids and nutrients. It's very likely that will not work and will end up costing you about $300.

Sorry. The floor is a very dangerious place for a piggie.

Your vet is not closed on a Sunday. Get a pen and paper and phone them. There will be a message and you write the number down and call immediately. Don't waste time on the internet, get on the phone.
All vets have a system to provide emergency out of hours cover.

They need to know exactly what the pill is called and how it is spelled, how much she ate and when she ate it.
Stop putting water in her mouth, if it gets in her lungs she won't be able to cough it up.

What do you mean by tablet? Well, I am very sorry. I have a gerbil and when it's mate died it's legs were like jelly too. I think that it is the end for your pet, but on the bright side, you can always get another one. I hope it gets better.

She can't swallow water because her muscles are relaxed. If you get worried you can look in the phone book for a vet that comes out to your home.

What kind of tablet? You could call the poison control center, they would probably be able to give you help. There are als probably larger animal hospitals in your area that are open. Good luck!

most vets have an out of hours emergency service, ring round until you find one that has or you will probably have a dead guinea pig very quickly
