multiplied 10 times

...as in "a ten fold increase"? This means ten times. For example: at the beginning of the waiting period there was a 2.4g percipitate at the bottom of the flask, and after the waiting time we measured an average of 26.2g of percipitate. A ten fold increase.
The term "fold" implies a multiplicitive factor, in this case 2.4 times ten is about 26.2 grams.
It also implies an aproximation, note that 2.4 times ten is not exactly 26.2 but close. It is more than "nine fold" and not quite "eleven fold".

Multiplied by 10. Usually written as 10-fold. And "people" should have be caught by the spell-checker.

The common slang means "times 10".
But if you acually folded something 10 times you would now have something 1024 times smaller.
