The Greek people have two sources for their feelings of being powerful. The first is their pride in their homeland's being the birthplace of so many important inventions and conventions such as democracy.
Their second asset is the solidarity of the Greek people. They stand firmly beside one another making those 7,000,000 count far more than a larger, more diverse group.

Greeks are in a very prized location
Its a good spot to be but contested highly
They are physically strong and have had to deal with recent superior successes of Italy and France and other Europeans that were not even using fire when the greeks were a civilized culture
they invented language cities waterways miltary organized thought mostly everything we see today they conquered stole reinvented or had their hands in and now it isnt that way but many greeks believe it could be and still should be...
strong history and culture
very individualistic
they were once the rulers of the world
same concept as the United KIngdom
A few rich power hungry military men yearning for the past when they were dominant in the seas
as for population... cuba only has 11 million and the united states the earths greatest super power with their almost 300 million people thinks they are such a great and potential threat!
why?
no real reason... except maybe Cuba's Allies Cuba = China
Plus everyone else who has a problem with the US or George W
Cuba is so geographically close and located near their soft and succeptible underbelly (the south)
It only takes one man to cause so much alarm and fear (Fidel)

Don't know where you got your population census but it's more like 10 millions....
I am not Greek but after the Turkish rules and the slaughters and destruction that people have been able to bear from the Turkish rules and Islamic forced conversions I beleive the Greek have a lot to show the world. They kept their culture alive and well and defended it with Faith and purpose !
