First of all, if you ever met me, you would never know I used the following tips. I have a beautiful home, lovely things and dress very nicely. I am often complimented on my style, decor and taste. So, here is the secret to my success . . . :)

1. I always pray when I enter the store to only buy what I need.

2. I use coupons; if I don't have a coupon, I don't go.

3. I don't buy many things that I will have to throw away and rebuy, like Swiffers, or paper towels or disposable cleaning cloths.

4. I have made my own laundry detergent and dog biscuits in the past. There are many recipes for home care that are available online.

5. I don't buy expensive cleaners; amonia and vinegar are amazing cleaning products.

6. I buy all my clothes on sale.

7. I never go to the mall. Any time you buy something at a mall, half of the cost of any item goes to paying the store's rent to be in the mall. The actual price of the item is usually ridiculously low and you are paying a 400-800% mark up.

8. I buy many items second-hand either from garage sales, estate sales or classified ads.

9. I buy my clothes on ebay. I have to wear very professional clothes to work and I find some amazing designer finds online.

10. I love buying kitchenware at estate sales, rummage sales, etc. because today's kitchenware is so poorly made that they often break after a few uses. Items from the 30s, 40s and 50s are much sturdier and were made to last.

Those are just a few of my tips! Enjoy yourself! You will be amazed at what you can find at some amazing prices!

Big oaks from little acorns grow.

Save your change. Every day. At the end of the day put it in a jar.
If you REALLY want to save, add to it the smallest bill you happen to have at the end of the day. If that bill is a fiver, so be it. At the end of each week, deposit that amount in the bank.

When you go to a major grocery store sometimes at the bottom of the receipt you'll see a note that tells you how much you saved. When you get home, add that savings, no matter how small, to your jar.

If you REALLY want to get into it, then note the gas prices. You'll undoubtedly pick the lesser price. Pay yourself that difference.

Quit smoking (if you smoke). Pay yourself the money you'd spend on cigarettes. If you drink, buy a cheaper beer and/or wine (but not necessarily Night Train or stuff like that). Pay yourself the difference.

Here's the big one: when you get a raise, pay yourself that raise. That's when your savings will really take off.

Plan for your days, For example if you have lots of errands to do (shop, auto, post office, etc) Do it in one set day and not each day . With gas $3 and up it gets costly to drive around daily. Another, Find a Library and utilize the free resources there. Books and Books on Disc and Movies can be rented instead of purchased. Good Luck!
