We're heading to puerta Plata next week. just started packing. Any thoughts on extras we should bring? We also boughts some things to handout to our maid and around the hotel, some marbles, skipping ropes and little things to hand out to kids on our tours. can you think of any thing that people around in the more povrished areas would need? thanks

I am Dominican, therefor I believe I can give you some suggestions, It's summer time and my country is very hot year round but specially at this time, for you and yours I would suggest you to take stuff that are comfortable for that type of weather, like sandal, t-shirts, top tanks, shorts etc, also take some sunblock to protect your skin ,because the sun is pretty intense there, and IT IS VERY NICE OF YOU to think of those in need, I'd say whatever you give them would be valuable for them specially if it is cloth items and shoes, God bless you and have a wonderful trip, (I hope you contact me after the trip to let me know how it went)

I know lots of people that take (new or old)make up and nail polish for the maid and coloring books and crayons for kids. They also really like thermal mugs that they can keep a drink cold in.
