All the habitual drinkers I've ever known have been closet drunkards. Sometimes even they don't know it yet. They lie about how much they drink, to themselves as well as to others. They are the only ones who can control their drinking problem, and admitting there is a problem is the first step.

they are no doubt an addict which is a disease. They have to go to AA meetings for life and have a best friend for moral support any time day or night to listen .. have them not get into bars or hang with people with addictions for a bit till they understand the root of as to why they drink - what are they hiding or so depressed about ? ask questions they have free AA meetings theres always a reason perhaps they come from a co- dependant family which therefore is dysfunctional and they become that as well.

Right!!! That's funny...
When you figure that one out bottle it and you'll be rich beyond your wildest dreams.
The only thing that stops them is their own desire to, and they don't think they're doing anything wrong, so you can see the problem you're up against here...don't waste your time...be a friend but let them live their life the way they choose or they won't want to be your friend anymore (that includes family sorry to say)!

Tell him, very politely, it is misuse of money and it is disturbing your family budget, prestige and atmosphere. If he do not stop drinking, give him some alum after drinking or at the time of drinking, without his knowledge and isolate him. Also drop some alum in his cupboard bottle without his knowledge. Have check on his Friends who drink with him and strictly keep them away from him. Also check his pocket money and watch his bank account and dealings.

Sadly, there is not too much you can do. If someone has a drinking problem there is not much you can do. Talk to them, and support them when they realize the have a problem support their rehabilitation.

Just talk to them and if they do not want to hear it or get mad or just try to change the subject stick to your guns and keep bugging them about it and eventually they will cave in and talk to you

You can not control someone else's behavior - especially when it comes to drinking.
