I have an exposed brick wall. What kind of hooks should I buy? How do I go about drilling into the brick without making a big mess?

The most difficult part is going to be drilling into the masonery. A hammer drill is usually needed but you can get away with a regular drill for something this small. Buy the 1/4" masonery bit with a brad point, a box of hollow wall mounts(looks like red plastic bullets) , and hooks with 3 holes in a row about 3" apart. Mark the holes and drill but dont keep constant pressure on the bit, imagine you are doing push-ups against the wall (alot of pressure then back off, then back on) If you set your holes in the grout line it will be much easier. These anchors should hold.

You need to get a mason bit (or similar bit) the size of the Molly's you are going to insert into the wall to hold the hooks you are going to hang the bike with. Hold the bit next to the molly and mark the length of the molly on the bit (I use a piece of tape) so you don't drill in to far. Drill the hole up to the tape, insert the molly(you may need a hammer for this), screw in the hook and you are all set. I usually put the molly's in the mortar between the bricks so it can be patched later if you decide to take them out.
As for the hooks, any good hardware store can set you up with hooks made just for this purpose.

everything stated above is correct up to the anchoring part. DO not use mollies!! they r way to small and can not hold up a bike with bike hooks installed in them. u want to drill out for a lead shield anchor. min 2 inches long and 1/4" inside dim.

the anchor will have on it the outside dim. and the inside dim. drill out hole, drive in shield, screw in a swing hook or u can buy plastic coated bike hooks.

You could use one of those bike suspension thingys that use the cieling above. There are also kinds that have 1 pole from floor to cieling. Check out the Performance Bike website.

Otherwise, Hammer drill + Masonry anchors.
