The insights of philosophy are the insights of your own brain. That is, if u have a philosophing brain, which we don't all have. The philosophy as a "science" or "art" or whatever u might call it is just another manipulating thing. The free, creative stuff is just inside you. Which is normal, since you're the only one that philosophy should be true for.
In case you don't have a philosophing brain, then just go google the philosophy term and get addicted to what the "great minds before" said.

"For a man to conquer himself is the first and noblest of all victories." -Plato

Philosophy solidifies the character with concepts of flexible nature.

Here is how I see it, but everyone has to find out for his/herself.
I use the male gender only for ease of writing:

When man made his first tool, philosophy was born. He realized his capabilities with respect to the outside world could be increased, and that he could ease his survival.

His animal instincts had no doubts of his existence unlike what we reference today as "man - a being in search of meaning." His meaning was survival. Philosophy was intensified by man when he covered his private parts for the first time. He used his hands as a tool to tie the cover. He began to form and personalize himself -- art was born, and laws were expanded.

Man discovered his first tool and realized he had more capabilities than he thought. Later he covered himself and began to refine and extent his existence -- and the question of what am I became who am I?

Now that I have tools and can do more, who am I? And why does the next door neighbor has more tools? When I was an animal, neither me nor my neighbors had physical tools, and we only had our body strengths. But now mind seems to matter. And the question of what am I (essence) became who am I (existence, meaning of). Who am I in terms of my capabilities?

His search for meaning of existence set him apart from animals – and since then, his existence has preceded his essence, and his output has become his definition.

Today man has many tools. He has the basic tools, and adds some of his own in the process. Not sure who he is now, man always struggles with his pre-made covers.

I have a thirsty fish in me
that can never find enough
of what it's thirsty for!

***

What hurts you, blesses you.
Darkness is your candle.
Your boundaries are your quest.

I can explain this, but it would break
the glass cover on your heart,
and there's no fixing that.

***

Are these enough words,
or shall I squeeze more juice from this?
Who am I, my friend?
