PH of the aqueous solution of NaCl is 6 - 7 @ 1% by weight

My guess, 6 to 7.

Sea water contains many compounds, sodium chloride is just one of them. If u need to stimulate sea water, simple NaCl water probably wont do. Sea water has pH above 7, but NaCl soln should have pH below 7.

Since hydrochloric acid is a strong acid (chloride is a very weak base) and sodium is a very weak acid, so pH value for NaCl water without contacting air should be 7.

However, carbon dioxide in the air will make the soln acidic. so, 6-7 should be fairly reasonable

The pH is just 7. This is a neutral salt and will not have an effect on the pH of the solution. If you think of how NaOH is a strong base and HCl is a strong acid, you know that Na+ would be an extremely weak acid and Cl- would be an extremely weak base. If seawater has a basic pH, it would be due to other components of the solution.

If using just NaCl the pH will be 7. Exactly 7.

The pH of ocean water is more dependent on the other species in the water. If you just make salty water, the pH will be highly dependent on the starting pH of the water you use. If deionized or distilled water, the pH will probably be acidic due to dissolved CO2.

since NaCl is an acid so it' pH should be less than 7

Hi, My Friend

Your Answer is :

The generally accepted pH level in saltwater systems is between 7.6 and 8.4, but reef tanks are a bit more sensitive to pH and should be kept more toward higher levels.

This set is specific for the 7.5 to 8.5 range of seawater.

OK

GOOD LUCK
