In 1956, Hungary was already under Soviet control (largley thanks to FDR and his sellout of eastern Europe to the Soviets). There was at the time the abortive attempt to rise up and free the country. It remained part of the Soviet bloc until the collapse of that system. He was drawing an analogy between the brave Hungarians who attempted to rise up and the current Iraqis who are also fighting for a stable and decent country.

There was no chance for the U. S. to help us, because it would have meant a possible nuclear war. They didn’t involve in any war directly with the U. S. S. R., and invading Hungary would have been one.
As for Iraq, there was just a very general similarity. You know too Bush always comes up with democracy and freedom, no matter what did you ask. In 1956 we had a revolution against communism demanding freedom and democracy. Bush said democracy is just being based in Iraq and terrorists are the enemies of this process. He also said Hungarians’ desire for freedom may instigate the Iraqis desire for freedom.

Because the US, like the Soviets, invaded a small nation to evict a brutal dictator, set up a puppet government, then stayed on as occupiers long after their ostenible mission was finished.

Just one more way Bush is turning the US into the New Soviet Union. Gulags, torture, evesdropping, and years in prison with no charges or trial ... your tax dollars at work.

Because nobody remembers.

No, I know the Hungarians remember but you know Bush.. wherever he is... every speech is for 'his voters'. Americans still think that Europe is free because they did all the work.

Because in his public speeches, he says (or tries to say) whatever his ghost writers and spin doctors provide for him.
For that matter, so do almost all other politicians.

Because he was drunk, and he don't know nothing about history. Don't you get it, the most idiotic president in the history of US is pushing the great nation into abyss.

Bush is a bumbling moron.

The only reason he WON was because the election was rigged and he won by fraud.
