The length of a rectangle is 3 in. more than twice its width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 36 in., find the width of the rectangle.

l = 2w + 3
p = 2(l + w)

36 = 2((2w + 3) + w)
36 = 2(2w + 3 + w)
36 = 2(3w + 3)
36 = 6(w + 1)
6 = w + 1
w = 5

l = 2w + 3
l = 2(5) + 3
l = 10 + 3
l = 13

Length = 13
Width = 5

ANS : 5 inches

2(w+(2w+3))=36
3w+3=18
w=5 inches

p=2l+2w
l=(w+2)
36=2(w+2)+2w
