A god father is someone that you chose to take your child in the event of your death. THey can also choose not to take you child then your child will go to the next of kin. A Grandfather is the father of one of the parents. Very big difference between the two. There is also a God mother. It is a good idea to pick both when you child is born. Good luck!

Godparents, particularly int the Catholic Church, are relatives or even friends of the parents of a baby. They may be surrogate parents in a way, but their specific duty is to rear the child in the faith, if something should happen to the natural parents.
