I don't think that it is a case of her thinking that you are not a good singer. It is more a case of, there are hundreds of thousands of singers out there and it take more than just talent to make it in the industry. You should always have a "fall back on" career. It takes money to buy all the stuff you will need for a singing career, and unfortunately, being a waiter or waitress will not cut it.
I think that if you show your mother that you are also developing a career skill that you can still take care of yourself with until the day you "make it big", she might not be quite so negative about your dream. We all have these grand dreams of what we want to be, and your mother is old enough to have seen her own dreams hit in the head with the reality of life.
I know a lot of singers and very, very few ever make it big. Just show her that you are aware that while it could be a very steep ladder to climb to your dream, that you will also have a way to support yourself until such time as things come together for you on the musical front.

Sorry if this may sound harsh. Can you really sing? I have been a working musician for 32 years and have heard this many times over. Often the person "likes" to sing but really has no clue whether they can or not. You need to openly seek the opinions of others as to your ability before you pursue a career in singing. Look to other whom are not family or close friends so you will get an honest opinion. It is better to find out early on than end up getting your feelings deeply hurt later on.
A thought to me is: If your mother is trying to discourage you this may be a nice way to help you avoid hurt and embarrassment as you might not have the talent to sing publicly. Also if you exuded a natural talent many would be encouraging you to seek a musical career.
If you are good and this is in your heart by all means go for it. It appears to me you are young and possibly still in school. You should join chorus and maybe try some vocal lessons. A voice is a musical instrument and should be practiced and perfected.

You don't need to convince her that you want to. She already knows that. While being a singer is certainly an admired profession, your mom is probably just looking out for your own best interests. That's a VERY competitive market to make a name for yourself! I encourage you to pursue your dreams of becoming a singer, but at the same time be a realist about it. If you go to school for something other than singing, you can have something to fall back on in case the singing career doesn't pan out well. Chances are your mom with think this is noble reasoning. Good luck!

Sure,
First off, have you sat down and talked to her about your ambitions. You need to get a well-thought out plan and present it to her. Tell her how you will practice after school and homework, that you want to do this for yourself and not anyone else. Show her some positive things about singing. Give her and your family a mock performance, see what they think. Good Luck, who knows maybe you will be on American Idol

All the worlds best singers never listened to their mothers. Practice your singing. Get lessons if you can, even under the guise of a 'hobby'. Then, when it comes time to make your own decisions, do what you want to do. Life is too short to become a dentist because mom thinks you have nimble fingers, if you get my meaning.

Your Mother may not be Musically inclined or you might be fooling your self. you need an impartial judge to evaluate your potential, But just keep singing if that's what you enjoy.

Show her how dumb it isn't. Perform for the woman, make her see how much fun singing can be.

you don't have to convince your mom of anything. join a chorus/choir group. get involved. don't just talk the talk, walk the walk. and be honest with yourself - are you REALLY any good?
