Due to the open-close mechanism of clamp shell hp ( especially Samsung), these phones does not last too long. Repair is too expensive and they end up in rubbish bin. Clamp shell hp also require additional action (sometimes both hands needed) to "open" .

They still exist because people still buy them. Maybe people like the looks more over functionality and dependability.

People like the fact that the keys are protected from accidental pressing.

Also, clamshell designs are shorter then candy-bar ones.

Because of the small size with more fetures.
