As you are standing in front of the car looking at the engine, you will see two motor mounts on the top of the engine, running from the engine to the front of the car. They look like a dog bone. One of them will have a bump on the bottom with a hole in it. Loosen the other one first. By this I mean remove one of the bolts. Now loosen the one with the bump on the bottom. Remove the bolt closest to the bump. When you have the bolt out, have a helper help you push the car either forward or backwards. Do this with the car in park. This will cause the engine to rotate slightly. When the hole in the bump lines up with the original bolt hole, put the bolt back in. The engine should now be rotated towards the front. It is now much easier to replace those spark plugs that are on the rear. Reverse the steps when you are done.

Heavens I should hope not! I've heard horror stories about having to lift an engine just to get at the spark plugs, but don't go there if you don't have to. That means loosening the motor mounts, jacking up the engine- ick! Try every combination of monkey wrench, adapters, ratchets, elbow, extenders, etc before you go there. Maybe you know someone with smaller hands who can reach in there?
Good luck!
Kelly and Angelina: sometimes the spark plugs are NOT right on top! -2 pts for both of you :P

No you don't have to lift the engine to get to your spark plugs. That would require you having to take all your motor/tranny mounts loose. I have changed plugs in many GM 3.1 motors and all I did was take off the solonoid pack mounting there are two bolts and two nuts holding it down. After you take it off it really shouldn't be too bad to get to the plugs closest to your firewall. Hope this helped you

Highly unlikely. Since spark plugs are usually found on the top of the engine.

Good question, MAN it is going to be hard, if you're a guy with big hands you might want to find a friend with smaller hands to give it a try.It can be done but like I said it's a b***h. There is one trick though, if you can position a good hydraulic jack towards the rear of the engine, with the aid of a 2X4 you might get some lift, enough to make it somewhat easier. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

No, if you can't get to them from the top of the engine try jacking up the car and get them from underneath.

if its a tranverse engine with the mounts up top bolted to the front (above the radiator) i believe you can unbolt those and rock the engine forward.

I don't think you would have to. Check the manual.
