I was on the depo shot about 6 years ago. I only took one shot, because it gave me bad headaches. I didn't get my period for almost 2 years after. Now, I am trying to get pregnant, I get my periods and they are very heavy and often times there are big clots. Is this normal?? If not what could be the cause of this happening?? Is there anyone that has had this happen to them, and is it possible to still get pregnant?
I have an appointment with my ob/gyn in a week and a half, but trying to get a head ups before I go for my appointment. Thanks ahead of time.

I was married then to my husband when I was got the shot. The reason for doing it was so that I would not have a period and almost no chance of getting pregnant again. We wanted more kids, but wanted to space them out a little bit.

Sounds like you may have a fibroid tumor. One symptom of fibroids is heavy periods. Don't be afraid, they are very common and very treatable. Search for information on the Internet because there is a lot you can do as far as dietary changes and herbal supplements. You may need surgery but DO NOT submit to a full hysterectomy EVER. That is extreme but if you end up needing surgery, insist on a partial, leaving one ovary intact...enough to produce a baby making egg!!! About your desire to become pregnant, I thought I was infertile for years. I got married last year and my husband and I just prayed for the best. I am now pregnant (YAY!!!) but my ultrasound revealed a fibroid tumor. I had NO symptoms. I was examined many times because of my fertility concerns and the tumor wasn't discovered. You may need an ultrasound. Hope you share all you have here with your doctor and I hope the doctor is an open-minded one. Not all ob-gyns have heard of everything or read up on their journals. Best wishes to you! I hope you get better and deliver the precious baby you want. ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD...IF WE ONLY BELIEVE. Believe.

I was on the depo shot a yr and I too got clots during my period. It is a side affect from the shot. I am glad you are off the shot now. How long have you been trying? We have been trying for #2 for 4 yrs now with no luck. I think it is because of the shot. A lot of women get different effects from the shot so you are doing right by going to the doctor.

From the time I started my period at age 15 until I had my first child at age 28 I had a very heavy (and LOOONG-10 day minimum) period and passed a lot of clots. Once I had my son, my periods got shorter and lighter with less clots. It is very normal. If you are concerned however, I would suggest talking to your doctor when you go in a couple of weeks. As you can see, it is still very possible to get pregnant.

No it's never normal to have clots, that really is not a good sign!!!!
But there are so many facts to why you do, You may have fibroid tumors which can cause heavy bleeding and clots, but that's just 1 ans. not the fact to your situation. It's sad these shots can do more bad than good please next time use condoms it is not hard to remember to wrap it up, All you need to visual next time your active think about getting A.I.D.S. That alone has heavier weight than having a baby. Oh one more thing go to an herbal store and get your system flushed to get that shot junk out of your system. Your body has been altered from it's natural function. Good luck

i think because you have been on the depo shot and did not have you period you'll find that its normal, because your utuerus hasn't been flushed out in so long and the lining has built up so much it is just going full on. which can also cause the clots because i know its normal to pass clots thro in just a normal healthy period aswell. i'm sure that after a short few months and when your body goes back to normal you'll have no problems with getting pregnant, but im not a doctor so i don't have medical knowledge nor does anyone on here, but that is my guess!!

Heavy periods *are* normal for some women. But sometimes what looks like a heavy period is bleeding that is *not* a period, but is rather a sign that something is wrong.

The best way to tell is to chart your cycles and signs of fertility. Please read _Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler for details on how to do this. It will help you determine the best timing for sex if you want to conceive. Even if you *do* need medical help in conceiving, this information will save you time, money, and discomfort in treatment.

Good luck!!

It is good that you are passing the clots. It would be bad if you didn't. They are likely caused by the heavier flow. I recently went through something similar. Ended up having small ovarian cysts, doc put me on birth control for three months even though I had my tubes tied. It did the trick though. I now have regular moderate flow periods.

when i was younger i have heavy periods(would have to change my tampon every half hour or so) but i had good size( about the size of a quarter or so) and my doc said everything was fine...but the shot should be out of your system by now but it does take some people longer to get it all out and everything to normal
