I was on the depo shot about 6 years ago. I only took one shot, because it gave me bad headaches. I didn't get my period for almost 2 years after. Now, I am trying to get pregnant, I get my periods and they are very heavy and often times there are big clots. Is this normal?? If not what could be the cause of this happening?? Is there anyone that has had this happen to them, and is it possible to still get pregnant?
I have an appointment with my ob/gyn in a week and a half, but trying to get a head ups before I go for my appointment. Thanks ahead of time.

I was on the depo shot for 6 months (in 1999) and gained about 120lbs, but when my period returned almost 2 years later, it was definitely heavier (and thicker) than before. Your body has to get rid of all of the placental lining it created every month that you didn't have a period unless, you were on another form of contraceptive that prevents you from creating a "placenta" every month. I didn't try to get pregnant until May of 2002 and had my daughter in March of 2003. I don't think that your current problems have anything to do with the depo shot, I think your OB will explorer other avenues such a endometrosis or something like that, I think that you are more likely to find your answers there.

When I was on Depo, I was one of the Lucky ones not to get me period. After quiting the shot, I never had any problems. At least you have an appointment with you doc. s/he will be able to tell you more.

The clots may be something else, but yes you can get pregnant after Depo. I have had two since.

I have big clots like that too, and I've never had a Depo shot, so it's probably unrelated. I discussed it with my doctor and she said that it's very normal and nothing to be worried about. I would still discuss it with your doctor, just in case, but I wouldn't worry yourself about it. Good luck at the doctor. :)

I used to have a very heavy flow with clots and I was told that I had Endometritis. I had a lot of pain and had surgery to "kill" the fibroids in the uterus. Now, I have alighter flow and almost no pain. A lot of people have this problem.

The clots are normal, that is just chunks of your utereus lining shedding. As far as still getting pregnant I am unsure.

The clots are the lining of your uterus. I'm not sure why you aren't getting pregnant. I suggest going to your doctor. They can suggest other ways of getting pregnant.

Heavy periods can be caused by fibroid tumors. You can still get pregnant though.

You may have to get a D&C to clean you out first.

if you have not had a period in sometime, it is not unusual for them to be heavey, your uterus is trying to shed all of the lining and gunk that has built up in there. if your periods are normal come when they are supposed to it will not affect your trying to conceive.

I use to get the same kind of periods....I had to have the lining of my uterus scraped, then I did get pregnant.
