If you have to keep the gas pedal to the floor to start, then your engine is flooding( getting too much fuel , not enough air), a couple of things can cause this, fuel regulator, map sensor, weak ignition(spark), to test this, I pull off a big vacumn line, like the one going to the brake booster, the engine will race alittle, but start easier.......you worked on a wiring connection? usually, if you work on something, and get a problem you never had before, it was something you did

The car has lost it's minimum air rate, you need to unhook the battery to clear the BAD memory. Leave it unhooked for 5 minutes. Then hook it back up and start the car and let it idle, do not touch the throttle. It may take several tries to start but don't touch the throttle. Allow the car to idle for 15 minutes with the A/C off and do not have the defrost on. At the end of the 15 minutes shut off, then restart and put it in gear, not touching the throttle. Sit with it in gear for 10 minutes not touching the throttle. When completed shut off and restart, the car has relearned it's air rate and should idle fine. DO NOT touch the idle screws on the car. This should resolve your problem. Unhooking the battery to replace the alternator was your down fall. They make memory savers to put in the cigarette lighter to retain this memory. FYI. Hope this helps.

Have you taken it in and had the codes scanned? That is where you should start with any modern vehicle these days. Sounds to me like the injection system needs work if you have done all those things and still have problems. Probably the injectors themselves.

Turn up the idle!!! Also, check and lubricate all the linkage from gas pedal to carb, and tighten up any loose connections and look from broken parts. Ta-dah!
If you can afford it, do think about a new decent used Honda:) They run forever, I love 'em- blow off "buy American" - WHY when they have so many problems?

Check the fuel injectors. they have a little light you can buy that you plug in and lets you know if they are working properly
