In reference to everyone guessing that she killed 88 Yakuzas because they were called the "Crazy 88s", they obviously forgot 2 things:
1) the young boy whom she didn't kill (and, instead, literally spanked with her sword and sent him crying)
2) In Part 2, when Bill was asked if there were 88 of them, he responded that there weren't 88. His theory was that "they thought it sounded cool".
As for the number of people she killed, she killed 57 people in the House of Blue of Leaves.
As a piece of trivia, two actors who were considered for the role of Bill were Warren Beatty (whom Tarantino saw as making Bill into more of a James Bond type) and Kevin Costner (who turned it down to do Open Range). Also, one of the Crazy 88s was played by Quentin Tarantino (he had to find a way to appear in the movie somehow)

They were called the crazy Eighty Eights, but there were not really 88 of them and she did not kill all of them. So my guess is about 30 or 40.
