Moscow, St Petersburg, Pskov are very nice to visit, not expensive, the temperature is going to be okay till october though till the end of june it's going to be VERY hot, i think august or september is a very good time,
you can go to Yasnaya Polyana (Tul'skaya oblast') - the house of Leo Tolstoy - very beautiful, or Melihovo (Moskovskaya oblast') - Chekhov's house

How about Sochi? A resort town right on the beach strip of the Black Sea. Tourist sightseeing tours, tropical exotic scenery, nice pleasant native Russians and it helps to know a little of the Russian Language just to get by. This is where the Russians go in the winter for vacations the same as we Americans go to Florida. My journey for there is in July and I am anxious and excited. Can not wait

Don't go to Moscow or St.Petersburg.They are like Paris and London and very expensive.Ekaterinburg(2 hour flight from M oscow)is very nice..I used to live there, but be prepared for extremes of temperature.Summer is 40 centigrade..winter can be as low as minus 35 degrees.New Year is magical there with the festivals and the Ice Palace. If you go in summer,go to the Black Sea resorts. They are all beautiful..and cheap.

Two places where you must go: Moscow, St. Petersburg
Other good big cities: Ryazan, Vladivostok
Other good places: Kamchatka national park, Lake baikal
Currency: ruble, but you can exchange dollars and euros for rubles at any major airport
Temperature: as I said before, freezing in the winter, good in the summer

in summer august is the hottest time...a few major rain storms but soon drys up. i just love pushkin & st petes...if you stay in pushkin its cheaper and you can travel to st petes in half an hour by train. CDs are cheap but copies...dont bother with DVDs. food is really cheap...try the local food...blini are lush.
