With Paint Shop Pro you load your image and then click on the paint brush icon.
You now need the Tools Options Pallet.
Click View and ToolBars.
Mouse over the header bar of the Tool Options Pallet to see the details that you can change for the paint brush. ( Density, Shape, size, Hardness and Opacity)

You also have the colour pallets, Foreground (Left Mouse Click) and Background (Right Mouse Click), which can be changed from solid colour to graded colour to pattern. A pattern can also be another image.

This works for airbrushing and cloning as well as colour replacer.

a brush is either a vector shape or a 2 colour bitmap image. basically, just an interesting shape to apply the paint with.

not sure about pspx but it's pretty easy in photoshop to import or create your own brushes. am sure that if you do a search for free psp brushes, you'd turn up plenty. then it's just a simple matter of importing them into your toolbox
