There are many possible reasons...

She may be having sex at the wrong time of her cycle. Her husband may be infertile. She may be conceiving, then losing the baby before or around the time of her menstrual cycle, leading her to believe she isn't getting pregnant. She could have blockage in her Fallopian tubes. She may not be ovulating. She may not have cervical fluid that will keep the sperm alive long enough to get them to the egg. Her uterus may not be allowing implantation. She may be using a lubricant during sex that kills the sperm. She may not have a long enough time between ovulation and her next period to allow the fertilized egg to get to the uterus before it's too late.

These are only a few of the possiblities.

As for what you can do about it... You do *not* have to wake up at 4 am. In fact, doing so will probably make it *harder* to get pregnant--you'll be too tired for sex!! (You check your basal body temperature when you wake up--whatever time that is!!) And taking your temperature will usually only tell you when it is *too late* for sex; most women don't have that temperature drop that the other answer mentioned.

The man may have a low sperm count. She may have endometriosis or a tilted uterus. Heavens... there are all kinds of things that can effect that. The least expensive and first thing to rule out is the low sperm count for the male partner. After that start looking into the female end of it.

It is always the first inclination to think it is the woman... and frequently it is... but men have to realize that if they put in long work hours, wear tight clothing or heavy clothing on their lower body, if they are under a lot of stress, are heavy alcohol drinkers, all these things have an effect on their sperm production as well.

And sometimes... all it takes if for both of you to stop dwellng on wanting to get pregnant. If the sperm count is fine, then chart the womans ovulation, her gyn can tell her how, or one can even look it up online. They usually like one to try these methods before anything more drastic.

To get pregnant you must have sex on a day that your eggs are being released.

After the 3rd day from the day that menses started put a thermometer into your mouth and check your body temperature every morning before you start turning in bed. The best time is at about 4 a.m. Maintain a chart. You will find that on one day the body temperature drops from 1/2 degree to one degree. This is the day that your eggs are being released. If you want to get pregnant this is the day that you must have sex.

After having sex you must stay in bed for about 30 mins with your knees bent up so that the sperms will not pour out - to enable them to travel up.

Get your husband to save his sperms in the testacles for at least 5 days before sex to enable them to mature well to do their job.

Don't try too hard, just relax and enjoy the sex. Unless you have tried for more than one year, you really should not worry too much about it. There could be nothing wrong - just a matter of chance.
