Maybe it is like religion... they feel they have to hold on to their cuture like to their belief because if not, they lose whatever they are living for and have no real purpose in their life...
they feel weak and need to be part of something , a group of some sort and that makes them feel that they belong & get recognition... especially when they are abroad, they can be overwhelmed by a whole new cuture and to 'keep their feet on the ground' they want to remind themselves where they are from by holding onto their culture...

Absolutely! Some cultures are VERY different from others,so I don't know about mixing w/ each other, but we should respect each culture,to each his own, and definately help one another....and as far as being true to culture...the focus should be on being true to our children and spending as much time with them as possible right now, and being true to ourselves.

I live in America. I eat, and is pretty much my lifestyle, Chinese.
I am Irish. That's me. Though, the sang is said to create and strengthen bloodlines. We are all connected and bonded anyway. It defines you which you can not hide from. Culture is like heritage which is where your from which is Family, your bloodline, you. I also agree with you .

I often wonder why people in the US are told to remember their culture. I was born and raised in the US, I am living my culture as an american. My Race is HUMAN and my nationality is AMERICAN.
