The Defeaticrats' "New Direction for America" foresees a future for this country as a kind of Lesser France. That would be problematic enough: The dependency culture favored by the Dems has mired much of Europe in permanent double-digit unemployment, a moribund economy and unsustainable social programs. Presumably, Nancy Pelosi and Co. would respond by saying that their pledge to "give America a raise" -- i.e., increase the minimum wage -- shows that their party is in tune with real people's real needs rather than a lot of foreign adventuring that's got nothing to do with how real people really lead their really real lives. Sorry, it doesn't work like that. Not even the Democrats can redeploy from the whole planet

We entered Germany in 1942 and we are still there. We will probably always want a base in the region. The current plan is to have the new Iraq government take over their own defense. While the US troops stay on a base and only come out in force if the Iraqi government calls for it. Then our troops should provide only air, supply, and transportation support. The idea is to get us out of the fighting. With the continuing hatred of the US, and many of our allies, in the area this seems like the best plan. We can't leave until the government is stable, and peace in the region is important for our National Defense. We don't get a lot of oil from the area (most of it comes from Canada or our own wells), but when the oil supply tightens up the whole market is effected and the price rises. We helped kick the Russians out of Afghanistan (or at least the CIA did) and look what it did. It allowed the Taliban to come into power and gave rise to Bin Laudien, which directly resulted in 911. Bin Laudien thought he could defeat the US and turn a war in Afghanistan into another Vietnam. We proved him wrong, but Georgie stuck his foot into Iraq and we are stuck there.

(1) American forces could be "redeployed" to Iran & screw things up even worse, but be out of Iraq...(2) the Federal Minimum wage of $7.25 was voted down, though politicians gave themselves raises of over $30,000 per person per year (which also happens to be the amount school districts are losing by having to pay for "Special Education" and (3) over 90% of American politicians are "professional Liars" with personal agendas & government doesn't care (much less are they "In Tune") about the real problems facing societies world-wide...The answers are actually quite easy, quick & profitable, but nobody listens to the TRUTH anymore...
