hi, i think you meant you were diagnosed w/ PCOS. there is no cure for this syndrome. you will never have regular periods, and you should get the book called - PCOS: the hidden epidemic to learn more about it. also, search for "insuline resistance" which is linked to causing PCOS and learn more about that. I also have this problem, and it's something VERY serious. could cause many problems, i.e. fertility problems, diabetes etc. so please, read up on it, and start taking care of yourself NOW.

I am not familiar with PCOS or PCOD. I am familiar with DUB (dysfunctional uterine bleeding). As you can infer from the treatment, this is a hormonal imbalance. The answer that mentioned "insulin resistance" is right-on.
If you have high insulin (hyperinsulinemia) - a pre-cursor condition for insulin resistance, the other bio-chemical reactions that high insulin causes can screw up more than just your periods. Polycystic ovaries, diabetes, heart trouble, are some of them.
For basic info on hyperinsulinemia, check out www.hufa.org.
The doctor can confirm this condition by use of a fasting blood insulin test. For the hormones, he should do a saliva test, to determine if you are high on testosterone, like me.
If your doctor won't order the tests, ask the doctor to prescribe them - because you can take the prescription to a lab and pay cash - ask for a cash discount. The insulin test may be $80-100, I don't remember about the saliva test. I suggest you go to a "Quest" lab - or any lab that does this test daily (not just once a month) as it has to be done right. If the result is 10 or higher, that may be indicative of high insulin.
If you get a handle on this now, you won't end up like me.

Take 500 mg of Vitamin B6 every day. This will regulate your period, and your moods if you have PMS issues, because it balances hormone production. You will have to keep taking it, but you can take it whether or not you plan on getting pregnant, so the only negative is having to take something every day.

Control birth pill. They control your period and you can even know the exact day you are gonna have it.
Try some with minimun components and you wouldn't have any side effects. For example Minulet in the light blue package
