Try using about a cup of baking soda in the wash. It never leaves a residue.

Have you tried using a natural, non-chlorine cleaning product? You may not be allergic to that kind. Otherwise, try using baking soda, apple-cider vinegar or maybe even lemon juice in the wash. Gain detergent is supposed to leave a nice smell.

Try a different laundry detergent. I'm sure you've heard the old saying "you get what you pay for". This is really true of laundry detergents. The cheaper ones just don't remove dirt and odor as well as the more expensive ones. Tide and Gain are two really good brands. Also, using a good fabric softener should help too.

throw in wash[ soak water too]
short wash then rewash as usual
always hang towels and washcloths or any linen to dry
never let them ly in a lump or pile
also the sun is good for making mold die

Your towels start stinking? I think you have to throw them away. I think you are using them for long time or the quality of towel( I mean materials) are not so good. which means it's started getting spoiling, so just buy new one and throw away the old ones. You can try washing thousands times but it won't help. I can say it because I have done it by myself too. at the end I found that buying new one is best solution.

How long do u go b 4 u wash them. you should wash them every week. Also, is your room humid? Bathroom? Place where you keep your towels? Honestly, your best bet is to get new towels and trash those

The musty smell usually comes from where they are being stored. Is the area well ventilated and no stagnant moisture? If they come from the dryer like that, try a softener sheet in the dryer.

that smell is given by water combined with dirt and others from clothes, u can avoid this smell if u get your clothes out of the washing machine immediately after washing machine has stop and u can try to wash them manually if the above doesn't work
